A Workshop for Well-Being in a New Environment

Starting life in a new country, at a different university, with unfamiliar customs and a new language can be exciting but also challenging. The workshop “Acculturation Stress – I’m OK, You’re OK” is designed for international students at the University of Hamburg who are seeking support in managing the stress that often accompanies these adjustments.

This interactive workshop offers a safe space to discuss your personal experiences and the challenges you face in both academics and daily life. Together, we’ll look at common stress factors and develop personalized approaches to help you handle your day-to-day life with greater resilience and calm.

In two sessions, we’ll explore your experiences and work on practical strategies based on insights from stress research, transactional analysis, and acculturation studies. By combining personal and cultural perspectives, we aim to provide you with active coping strategies. Our goal: to strengthen your resilience and offer tools to make the acculturation process easier.

Workshop Highlights:

  • Share cultural stories: Share personal experiences and challenges.
  • Understanding what is happening: How does stress arise in you and in an intercultural context?
  • Developing Coping Strategies: Individual Solutions for Stress Management
  • Practical exercises: Strengthening one's own resilience in the long term

This workshop is for you if you’re looking for support and exchange in an international environment. Whether you’re new to Hamburg or have been studying here for a while – you’re warmly welcome!

Target group: International students of the MIN faculty and in teacher training
