PIASTA movie night: Ukraine on screen
20.01.2024
- 6:00 p.m.
- 9:00 p.m.
We will show you the film Ukraïner. The Movie—a documentary that interweaves 6 stories. They show an ordinary day in Ukraine, shaped by unusual people. The main characters of the film live in different regions of Ukraine. We get to know their personal stories, their partly unusual professions, and, thus, the daily life of an entire country, which has been brought into focus for many of us by the outbreak of war.
So, come and meet a beekeeper harvesting honey in the trees, and travel to Bessarabia, where a lightkeeper gazes intently at the horizon. From there, move on to the Carpathians, where the Kischtschuk family sets the first thread of a lizhnyk (a traditional woolen blanket), and then to the sarcophagus of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, where hundreds of people continue to work.
The media project Ukraïner. The Expedition, founded in 2016, produced the documentary. The project aimed to rediscover Ukraine with its sometimes distant regions, small villages, and forgotten traditions. It centers on stories from all corners of Ukraine and is tailored toward Ukrainian audiences. (https://ukrainer.net/expedition-3/).
