“Professor Mamlock” is a 1961 film adaptation directed by Konrad Wolf of the 1933 anti-fascist drama of the same name by Friedrich Wolf. The story is set during the rise of the fascist dictatorship in Germany.
Professor Mamlock is a Jewish doctor who is increasingly forced to deal with the devastating effects of anti-Semitism and political persecution by the fascists. At the same time, he experiences solidarity from resistance fighters.
The film “Professor Mamlock” reflects on the responsibility of the individual in the resistance for overcoming barbarism and, in this context, the problem of an apolitical attitude. It is a powerful plea for humanity, not only in medicine, but as a universal humane responsibility. The film is thus a highly topical call for “Resist the beginnings”.
The film will be shown in remembrance of the Reichspogromnacht and will be followed by an introduction and a discussion. The introduction will be given by the film historian Dr. Detlef Kannapin.
